How Data Physicalization Enhances Spatial Perception?

Iris & Tacnet is a system solution designed to enhance spatial perception for visually impaired users, developed at the Lab for Experience and Affective at Shanghaitech. Iris is a wearable device that converts visual data into haptic feedback using IoT sensors and AI-based image segmentation. Tacnet is a participatory solution where family members input data, which is then transformed into tactile maps through data physicalization, helping blind users build mental maps of their environment. This project enhances human-technology interaction through multi-sensory experiences that allow users to "feel" their surroundings, reshaping how technology interfaces with human perception.
